COLUMBUS, Ga. (WTVM) - Coaches and players from Albany State and Fort Valley State were in Columbus for a media luncheon less than one week before the Fountain City Classic. The luncheon is one of several events scheduled before Saturday’s game. This year will mark the 36th playing of the annual rivalry game. The event’s emcee, D.J. Jones, said he believes games like the Fountain City Classic provide a big stage for the participating schools.“This is important because obviously this Black college classic is HBCU. The culture gives our community an opportunity to know, to learn a little bit more about historically Black college football,” Jones said.Kickoff is set for 2 p.m. Saturday at A.J. McClung Memorial Stadium in Columbus.
